Jurisdiction And Duties

The Ellis County Court at Law No. 1 has concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in civil cases regardless of the amount in controversy. See Tex. Govt. Code §25.0722. This includes real estate matters. See Schuld v. Dembrinski, 12 S.W.3d 485 (Dallas) which interprets a statute with language identical to the Ellis County statute.

The Ellis County Court at Law No. 1 also handles all of the Probate/Guardianship and CPS cases for Ellis County.  For a complete list of the cases handled by the Ellis County Court at Law No.1 please see the Court Rules of Administration for Ellis County.
