With new census numbers confirming the rapid growth in Ellis County in the last decade – from 113,360 in 2000 to 149,610 in 2010 – Ellis County Commissioners must draw new lines for commissioner precincts to adhere to this Constitutional provision for equal protection.
In addition, the provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, re-enacted in 2006, must also be met.
Public input is essential to the redistricting process.
A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Courtroom on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse on the square in downtown Waxahachie.
